APM PMQ for PRINCE2® Practitioners
Is this course for you?

The PMQ for PRINCE2® Practitioner course is designed to credit those with prior learning and qualification. You must hold a current registered PRINCE2® Practitioner certificate which will be required during the booking process. The course is ideal if you have experience as a project manager and are seeking to consolidate your PRINCE2® qualification with the nationally and internationally recognised PMQ qualification.

What Pre-work Is expected?

Our pre-course material will be sent out to you before the start of the course and includes the official APM Project Management Study Guide. We recommend you spend about 10 hours on the material which will be covered in depth during the course. What is the course like?

We have an average of eight delegates per course. The course will be delivered by an APM approved trainer who will also have practical project management experience.

Our courses are highly interactive with exercises, discussion and examples to bring the subject of project management to life.

There will be practice exam questions every evening, and constructive feedback from your trainer at the start of the next day. The first four days of the course are dedicated to delivering the course content. Friday morning is for exam prep, followed in the afternoon, by the 2 hour, closed-book and essay-style written exam. Your completed papers will be sent to the APM for marking and your results will be available within ten weeks.

Note: You won't be examined on duplicate content already included in your PRINCE2® course.

What is included in the cost?

Training by an APM accredited trainer, pre-course material, official APM Project Management Study Guide, PMQ course podcasts, handbook, PMQ exam fee, certificate, *refreshments and *lunch (* Southampton venue only).

What examination is taken?

PMQ for PRINCE2® Practitioners exam. This is a closed-book, 2 hour, essay style paper and candidates are required to answer 6 from 10 questions covering 25 topics. The pass mark is 55%.  The APM will inform you of your result within 8-10 weeks. There are topics that will not be in your exam, as sufficient coverage is provided by the PRINCE2 Practitioners exam. What is the APM?

The Association for Project Management (APM) is an independent professional body with 550 corporate and 21,150 individual members in the UK and abroad. The APM's aim is to promote and develop project management across all sectors of industry. APM Qualifications are designed with the intention of demonstrating to employers, clients and suppliers that the recipient is a skilled and committed project professional.

The APMP is an internationally recognised qualification (IPMA Level D) that enables individuals to demonstrate their knowledge for successful delivery of projects.

 

COURSE CONTENT

A structured approach to Project Management

Course Introduction An overview of the course syllabus, assessment criteria and the exam arrangements.
A structured approach to Project ManagementContext and Environments We explore how projects transform ongoing operations and how projects support strategic change as part of a co-ordinated programme or portfolio of projects.
Organisations and Structures Projects need to work in a wide range of different organisations and cultures. We explore different types of organisation and key responsibilities of the project manager, sponsor, user and project office.
Lifecycles We explore the project lifecycle and benefits of adopting a standard lifecycle for a project. Project reviews and benefits of capturing lessons learned from projects are also covered.
Organisation and Governance We discuss the principles of governance and how a project management method supports project governance. In addition we explore the use of a standard across the project lifecycle.
Communications Identification and management of stakeholders is a key to good communications in a project environment is. We explore the processes for managing stakeholders, the contents and structure of a communications plan and the factors affecting communications.
Conflict and Negotiation Conflict and resolving conflicts by negotiation is a critical skill for project managers. We explore the different approaches to conflict resolution and the stages in the negotiation process.

Leadership and team work We explore how to develop and lead successful teams. Discuss the leadership qualities of a project manager, principles of motivation, team motivation, situational leadership models, and benefits of effective teams and team working.
Scope Management We define scope in terms of outputs, outcomes and benefits and explain how to manage scope through requirements management and configuration management. We also investigate the stages in change control and the relationship between change control and configuration management.
Planning for Success We explore the business case through to the project management plan. The purpose of a business case, benefits management, authorship and ownership of a business case is discussed. We also explore payback, internal rate of return and net present value for project business cases.

Scheduling and resource management We explore detailed project planning, estimating techniques, the process to create a schedule, techniques of depicting a schedule, and the advantages and disadvantages of using scheduling software.

Risk Management We explore a proactive risk management process, its stages, risk response planning, benefits of risk management and the difference between risk and issue management. Finally the importance of a risk and issue escalation process.
Quality Management Poor quality management results in poor customer satisfaction, cost variances and project delays. We explore elements of quality management that include quality planning, assurance, control, continuous improvement and the practical application of quality management.
Procurement Finding the right supplier and working with them constructively to complete the project, is vital to success. We explore the role of a procurement strategy and the different forms of contractual relationship and payment types as described in the APM Body of Knowledge.
